Training Programmes on Internal Quality Assurance (IQA)

First workshop on IQA was held on 25th July 2005 at BMICH, Colombo with the participation of 63 IQA Unit members representing all 13 public universities. In addition five Vice Chancellors from the universities of Colombo, Moratuwa, Kelaniya, Sri Jayewardenepura and Open University of Sri Lanka were also present. During the workshop, the participants were introduced to the Organizational Framework and Responsibilities of IQA Units, as well as to the “Preparation of Self-Evaluation Reports” and “Subject Benchmarking Procedures in QA”

Second workshop on IQA was held on 29th December 2005 at SLIDA, Colombo, with the participation of 25 IQA Unit members. The main objective of this workshop was to gather the ideas and suggestions of those who undergone the Comparative Study Tour in Indonesia and Thailand, in order to establish a Internal QA system viable in the Sri Lankan context. During the workshop, following issues were discussed:

Organizational Framework and Responsibilities of Internal QA Units;
Activities of Internal QA Units for the Year 2006;
Awareness Programmes on QA.

As an outcome of the workshop, a working paper was prepared, which will be used by the IQA Units as a Guideline.
