INQAAHE Conference 2019 - Sri Lanka

The 15th Biennial INQAAHE Conference was co-hosted by the Quality Assurance Council of the UGC. It was held in Colombo from 25th to 28th March 2019 under the theme of 'Quality Assurance, Qualifications and Recognition: Fostering Trust in a Globalized World'.

His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, was the chief guest at the Inauguration Ceremony held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on 26th March. Hon. Minister Rauff Hakeem, Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education and Prof Mohan de Silva, Chairman of the University Grants Commission also graced the occasion.

Nearly 300 delegates from 52 countries participated in three days of deliberations on quality assurance in higher education. The programme included four pre-conference workshops, four plenary sessions with key note speakers, and five sessions for presentations of oral papers and posters by conference participants.

Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka delivered the keynote speech on  Ensuring and Promoting Trust in a Globalized Context.

The UGC hosted a Gala Dinner with an unforgettable cultural performance by students and staff of the University of Visual and Performing Arts at the Galle Face Hotel on 26th March. The traditional conference tour took delegates to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and the magnificent ancient Buddhist temple at Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya on 28 March.

The next INQAAHE Forum is due to be held in Moscow, Russia from 23 – 27 March 2020.
